In response to the last post about the legislation against spam, this is all about how not to even get spam in your inbox it is very simple to do;
First of all get a good spam filter, that is internet based (See my post on Yahoo Vs Gmail There are other paid for serviced like your ISP offers) Gmail did come out better off in this test.

Also you should be internet wise;
Not giving your personal e-mail address to every one on forums, Message Boards, Even registration pages. now you may ask wont this stop me from doing all the cool things on the net. In short the answer is no, you just have to be wise on what you do.
How are you still able to enjoy the net;
Well first of all create acounts with free e-mail services something like haspamerstrythis86@service.com will save your normal e-mail account from these nasy spam messages. now as I know all to well the last thing you want to do is have to set-up these accounts over and over again, well go to this site http://www.mailinator.com/ and every time you visit this page it will generate you a new e-mail account so that you don’t have to set up an account will lots of personal information, This site is great for sites that say we will send you an e-mail to activate your account

Next of all is YOU. The worst thing that any one can do is open the spam message. Just leave it and delete it. Don’t even preview it. This is because in the message there is a tracker that says you did look at the page. The spammer will know that you are real and will keep on sending the messages to you.

Also you must have a desktop based application on your computer, to view your e-mail this is because any spam that passed your spam filters on your account online, will most likely end up in the Junk folder, on your application (Some programs do not have junk filters, mostly because they are junk some good programs are Thunderbird (MAC & PC) Mail.app(MAC) These are the best) Now on the odd chance that your application does not put this, junk in the junk folder, you can train it for later(But hide the preview plane first before you click on the message) This will place any mail from the same address, or the same type of content into the junk folder, now in this case you will have some false positives in the first couple of weeks, you will need to train the application of what is bad and what is good chances are that someone like your mother will end up in the junk folder the first time you use it

I have found some of the most prominent issues and mostly they are against the people whom they are trying to protect, the first issue in the bill(In Part 1 Of 3) is “Prohibit unsolicited electronic messages with a New Zealand link from being sent in order to -”, “(ii) reduce the costs to businesses and the wider community that arise from unsolicited commercial electronic messages” First this bill will increase the cost to business, as any computer that has been zombified will be sending out spam, now take into account that the IT guys will be checking for viruses(Not On Mac) on the computers now take into account Part 2 of the proposed bill ::Defences:: “(B) the message was sent without that persons knowledge” well if the IT guy remove the viruses, there is now no prof that your computer was in fact zombified, the only way to make sure that your business will not be fined a hefty price. You will have to keep logs which will take more time, and in fact increase cost due to the IT fees.

Next up the most difficult part of this bill that makes it fall apart is “For the purposes of this Act, an electronic message has a New Zealand link if 1 or more of the following applies:
(a) the message originates in New Zealand:
(b) the person who sent the message is—
(i) an individual who is physically present in New
Zealand when the message is sent; or
(ii) an organisation whose central management and
control is in New Zealand when the message is sent:”
Now this is a huge hole as anyone even in New Zealand will be able to sign up for a free Gmail Hotmail Yahoo E.T.C, and you will not be able to trace it back to New Zealand more so if the person is using a Onion Router, it will be able to look like there coming from Russia where there are no such laws.

The next thing that gets on my nerves is that this bill will give people, a false state of security and people will open up all there e-mails even the spam ones. If you don’t know by now why this is bad wait till tomorrow where this post will be followed up with what not do do when you get spam.

As always some times it is better to educate rather than legislate.

You can find the script in the box widget on the side bar you could also create this your self;

1. Open Automator
2. Click on the Safari icon in the side bar
3. locate get current web page and drag it onto the actions plane
4. Locate Get text from web page and drag it under the last action
5. In library click on textEdit
6. Locate New Text File

Now all you have to do is run the script and there you have it

This is another cool plugin this will alow you to remove Adobe PDF from your system for ever.
So what this plugin does is it will alow you to preview a pdf document on the internet something that Safari lacks by default.
this plugin is better than Adobes plugin, also this plugin will alow you to take the document into other programs with out haveing to redownload the document saveing internet useage and time for the download, PDF Browser Plugin will alow you to open the document in any PDF viewer like Skim Apple’s Preview and if you must Adobe’s Acrobat, any way this has a whole bunch of extras put in to it
There is only one down side and that is that you can not use your scroll mouse to scroll

First of all go to the page containing the You Tube video.

Next in the menu click on Window -> Activity.

In this menu it will show you a list of what is going on. Next scroll down to the list to the name of the page containing the video, in the list there should be a file called ______.fla, .fla stands for Flash Video, all you need to do now, is double click on the file, and it should start to download.
Once downloaded, the file be on your computer, but as you can tell you will not be able to open it. This is where you will need a application, called iSquint which will change the .fla to .mov which you can then import the .mov file into iTunes.

And there you have it the Free way to get You Tube videos on to your mac

Turning It On;
In the menu click on Edit -> Spelling -> Check Spelling as You Type

And there you have it Spellcheck will be turned on for you

Another Great Add On For Safari Week

This great add on for safari will change the search box that comes with safari so that it is 100X better. With Inquisitor you will be able to search more than one site not just google so you will be able to search Google images, Yahoo, Amazon.com, IMDB, and much more.

Not only will it do that but it will all so be able to show you the top 5 search results from Google so that means that you will not have to go to the Google page but you can go down to the top result and there you are at the site.

In Inquisitor you can change the main Google page so that you can change the google page that will show your results to something like .co.nz or co.uk and so on

Most of all Inquisitor will try to check your mind much like what Firefox does it is very cool

And last but not least this search bar will not crash Safari like other one’s that i have tried

Ok this is a very cool add-on for safari, this add-on will give you a side bar, to the left hand side of safari, in this bar is a small screen shot version, of the sites that are open, in your safari tabs. This is great in it self, but with this bar you can rearrange the tabs much like in firefox.

Also in this plug-in you can change the css so that when you come back the next time you will be greeted with the same custom design. A.K.A Like making Google black to save energy. It also allows you to change the coding of a site while inside safari, this is great for developers in training to see how to change a page via code.
This is a very powerful tool to add to Safari one that you must add to your collection

This is a great app let me say you need it and let me tell you why

You can change how Safari identifies it’s self, to web site you are viewing. So that in the web sites logs, it will say IE6(Or firefox or what ever you want it to) even though you are using safari. You may ask why is that useful to me, well if you use a site, that says that it wont let you in because you are not using IE5+, this will fix this. There is a tone more stuff in Safari Enhancer, but if you get it for one thing it should be this.

Now there is one problem with it and that is that you will need to reset Safari after you have applied the settings but this is no biggy
